What We Do
HITS-NS provides, maintains and supports an IT infrastructure to facilitate the delivery of health care in Nova Scotia. We work collaboratively with our stakeholders to ensure IT infrastructure and systems continue to meet the needs of our partners within the health care sector.
Our team is comprised of health care IT experts with the extensive business and technical knowledge required to provide our clients with appropriate solutions.
We…
- provide infrastructure, services and support for health applications for nshealth.ca network users;
- manage a secure, provincial health care network and applications;
- help improve overall efficiency and sustainability of the health sector by providing secure access to information required to better plan, manage and deliver health care services;
- seek opportunities to create economies of scale by coordinating and sharing resources;
- support the implementation of an electronic health record (EHR) for each Nova Scotian.
HITS-NS has been integral in supporting new systems and tools with provincial scope. Services such as the Nova Scotia Hospital Information System (NShIS), the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Nova Scotia Telehealth are just a few of the ways the HITS-NS team supports health care providers in delivering better health care. The services and applications that HITS-NS supports are 
fundamental to the enhancement of our health care system.
